We’d like to congratulate the traffic team in the Town of Milton for their recent ITS Canada award!
Nominated by our partners at Stinson ITS, the town of Milton was the recipient of the Medium or smaller Metropolitan Area or Rural Applications award from the 2019 ITS Canada Awards Committee and the Board of Directors of ITS Canada. They were awarded for their work in improving the driver experience along one of the town’s busiest streets, with ATSPMs from Miovision TrafficLink.
Poor traffic flow along a heavily traveled corridor in Milton was the subject of daily citizen complaints. Drivers were increasingly becoming frustrated with the sporadic travel times between two intersections.
The town’s Engineering Services Department needed a solution, but the traffic studies necessary to determine the best approach typically cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and take months (if not years) to implement.
The team in Milton deployed Miovision TrafficLink, which reduced the length of the study to a matter or days, at a fraction of the cost. The Engineering team in Milton implemented changes based on the data provided by TrafficLink, which resulted in an immediate 8.5% drop in split failures and normalized overall travel times.
“Within four weeks of installing the [Miovision] system, Town staff were able to identify the cause of poor traffic progression, implement a solution, and measure the impact of their corrective actions, all from a comprehensive, web-based portal.”
