The Smart Cities Challenge is a competition open to Canadian communities who are eager to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of citizens through innovation, data, and connected technology.
With a top prize of up to $50 million, communities across the country are being challenged to think outside the box. They must consult with their citizens, and partner with businesses, academia, and civic organizations to design innovative solutions to their most pressing challenges. These communities are now they’re being tasked with finding smart city solutions which will have the biggest impact on their residents.
At Miovision, we believe any city can be a smart city, given the right tools. And, in our opinion, the best place to start building your smart city is right at the intersection. It’s where all points in your city converge and where you and your partners can provide immediate value to your citizens. Our smart intersection solutions transform the way traffic is managed today, and we’re happy to partner with industry and cities of all sizes to help communities understand the need for, and help plan for open architecture, smart mobility, and more.
In addition to our in-house capabilities, we’re proud to partner with innovative companies like Geotab to help cities realize their smart city goals. We’re working in collaboration with Geotab to create technology that allows vehicles to communicate with each other as well as with traffic infrastructure. This will allow cities to prioritize certain types of traffic, including emergency vehicles and specialized freight.
Smart mobility must play a key role in any Smart Cities Challenge submission. We can help you achieve many of the goals outlined in the challenge, including: enabling citizens to move around their community, feeling safe and secure, enjoying a healthy environment, and earning a good living.
Applications for the Smart City Challenge are due April 24. We wish all participating cities good luck. You’re taking the right steps towards making your smart city goals a reality. If your city would like a letter of support to include with your submission, or is looking to partner with Miovision to put your smart city plan into action, you can contact us directly, here.
