On-Demand Webinar: Achieving Vision Zero: Insights from 50 Traffic Safety Studies

Duration: 1 hour

Full translated webinar available on demand in English, French, Spanish, and German.

Traffic crashes are the number 1 cause of death for people under 29 years old¹. To combat this issue, cities around the world are adopting Vision Zero policies, which aim to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. However, the traditional approach to road safety has been reactive, relying on historical and unreliable crash data.

Benefits of attending:

  • Gain valuable insights from 50 traffic safety studies
  • Discover the latest solutions for improving road safety
  • Learn how to transition to a proactive approach to road safety
  • Interact with industry experts and ask questions in real-time

We worked at 50 intersections in 5 cities to implement a vision zero strategy driven by before-after video analysis

Miovision and MicroTraffic have developed innovative solutions to help cities achieve their Vision Zero goals. We turn existing cameras into diagnostic sensors that measure near misses and predict fatalities. Our solutions are based on video analytics and precision-targeted interventions, resulting in measurable rapid safety improvements that can accelerate progress towards Vision Zero.

During the webinar, we will cover the following:

  • How a video diagnostic study is conducted
  • How precision countermeasures are matched to diagnosed risk factors
  • How to measure rapid safety improvements to accelerate progress toward Vision Zero

Our solutions have been successfully implemented in multiple cities across North America, Europe and Japan, resulting in significant risk reductions and increased safety for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. For example:

Bike Safety – Quick Diagnostics and Quick Wins in Vancouver

One of North America’s top 3 large cities used safety analysis to diagnose bike lane safety problems, make low-cost improvements, and measure the results at 10 locations.

Results: 54.8% risk reduction and 68% cycling increase overall, with one of the intersections having a 98.8% risk reduction. If we can help cities make biking safer, more people will bike, driving down crashes & GHG emissions at the same time.

Left Turn Traffic Calming

One of the cities we worked with used video analytics to measure risks related to left turns. Based on the risks identified, they implemented left-turn traffic calming. They achieved a substantial reduction in conflicts and left-turning speeds. Trajectory analysis of constrained turning profiles proved the treatment was effective in reducing risk.

Pedestrian Safety Enhancements

One of the cities we worked with used video analytics to measure risks to pedestrians from turning vehicles at intersections. Based on the video analytics data, a range of precision-targeted interventions for pedestrian safety were implemented, including enhanced crosswalk marking visibility, leading pedestrian intervals, signage, and right turn on red prohibitions. They achieved risk reductions of over 80%.
