Introducing Miovision® Traffic Optimization

By: Matthew Muresan P. Eng | May 20, 2026

The Industry’s First Gen AI-Informed, End-to-End Traffic Optimization and Retiming Solution

Reimagining the Traffic Operations Workflow

Traffic networks are becoming more complex to manage every day. Traffic engineers and operations managers are no longer just focused on vehicle flow; they are balancing dynamic multimodal demands, pedestrian safety, and strict emission controls. Yet, despite these evolving goals, the tools used to manage traffic signals have largely remained stuck in the past.

Today, signal retiming is painfully slow, manual, and expensive. A typical retiming cycle happens only every 3 to 5 years, takes months to complete, and often requires agencies to outsource. When changes are made, they often require manual data entry that is prone to errors, followed by costly truck rolls to deploy the updates in the field. It is a reactive approach—where agencies frequently only fix outdated timing plans after citizen complaints roll in.

Miovision is closing the gap between complex, manual, time consuming traffic operations and field action with Miovision® Traffic Optimization. This solution provides a complete, end-to-end operational workflow that helps cities understand traffic demand and improve flow within a single, unified platform.

One Unified Solution. Four Simple Steps:

  • Analyze: Leverage GenAI insights to pinpoint exactly where timing plan changes are needed. By using historical and live network data, specific intersections or corridors are identified that require optimization.
  • Optimize: Automatically ingest your network’s geometry, count, and current timing plan data and leverage AI-based Genetic Algorithm engine to deliver actionable timing plans tailored to your city’s objectives. Choose from delay, corridor progression, fuel consumption, multi-modal priority, or define your own objective.
  • Review & Deploy: Our platform is built on the HCM methodology, allowing you to confidently compare and edit timing plan recommendations. Push timing plans directly to the field without manual data re-entry, complex file imports, or fragmented third-party integrations – eliminating inefficiency and truck rolls.
  • Validate: Close the loop with audit-ready reporting against industry standards at every stage, and verify network-wide improvements in flow, safety, and sustainability with post-change performance analytics.

Gen-AI Insights on Network Performance

The solution begins with Miovision’s GenAI Agent, Mateo which analyzes network performance using live and historical data to surface intersections and corridors requiring optimization. Through natural-language queries and instant, actionable insights, Mateo helps traffic engineering teams understand where signal performance is falling short and why, turning raw traffic data into prioritized, engineer-ready intelligence without manual data preparation.

Manage Signals Remotely with Controller Manager

Miovision Controller Manager modernizes traffic signal operations by providing real-time monitoring and remote access. Engineers no longer need to rely on costly site visits or manual truck rolls to diagnose issues or update timing plans.

Key benefits include:

  • Real-Time Visibility: See live telemetry and detector status to quickly resolve device failures or threshold violations.
  • Easy Editing: A spreadsheet-style interface allows you to edit, compare, and deploy timing plans in minutes with full version control.
  • Vendor-Neutral Support: Built on NTCIP protocols, it integrates seamlessly with leading controllers.

Streamline Retiming with Signal Optimizer

Miovision Signal Optimizer helps agencies automate the most time-consuming parts of the retiming workflow–from identifying where to act, to generating new signal timing plans, and finally to deploying those timing plans in the field using Miovision Controller Manager.

Key capabilities include:

  • Automated Data Ingestion Pipeline: Seamlessly connect all your data from geometry, turning movement counts, and existing timing plans to save countless hours setting up models.
  • Timing Plan Optimization: Generate updated splits, cycle lengths, offsets, and phase sequences for both isolated intersections and corridors as well as for fixed-time signals and actuated signals.
  • HCM-Compliant Traffic Model: Powered by an HCM-based methodology that delivers accurate estimates of the impact signal timing changes will have. Receive estimates of signal delay, level of service, queue length, and capacity.
  • Objective-Based Optimization: Optimize for specific outcomes, such as minimizing fuel consumption, maximizing corridor progression, or prioritizing multimodal road users like pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Engineer-Ready Exports: Generates comprehensive reports to assist in the validation and implementation of new plans. Export the results of the optimization in PDF, CSV and UTDF formats.

Always Keep the Human-in-the-Loop

Deploying new timing plans comes with risks, and trust is paramount. That is why this solution is built with strict “human-in-the-loop” control. Signal Optimizer provides comprehensive, engineer-ready reports (PDF, CSV, UTDF) that clearly forecast the impact of suggested changes. Before any plan is pushed to an intersection via Controller Manager, a traffic engineer must review the changes, validate the inputs against your agency’s standard operating practices, and leave detailed deployment notes in the system’s audit trail.

A Proactive Future for Intelligent Mobility

By combining these tools with our existing Performance and Detection solutions, Miovision is providing a proactive tool for the modern traffic engineer. This informed, end-to-end traffic optimization solution allows agencies to Analyze network health, Optimize timing, Review and Deploy changes, and Validate with audit-ready reporting—all in one platform.

This isn’t just about better data; it’s about better results for the community. Improved flow, enhanced safety, and smarter, better-connected cities are now within reach—without ever having to leave your desk.
